Tommy – Anita Gordon

How tragic! I’m assuming that Tommy died. What other explanation can there be? If he was still alive, then she could find his ass. It’s not like they live on different planets. Geeze.

The answer is, “no”.

Top 40 of my Life

When I was 12, a radio show called American Top 40 started. It was hosted by Casey Kasem. It premiered on July 4, 1970.

Old radioI listened to it every week. I always had my cassette recorder with me so that I could record my favorite songs when they played. I would get pissed when Casey would talk during the intro of some of the songs. I would also get pissed if, during a song that I was recording, my mom would bust into my room and start talking, or if I sneezed or coughed. Since I used an external microphone to record, any background noise would also be recorded. I’ll never forget the day that I got a radio with a built in cassette recorder. I thought it was the greatest thing ever invented. Now, I could record songs from the radio and people could blab all they wanted.

I quit listening to it when I went off to college. Occasionally, I would catch an episode, but it wasn’t an every week thing.

I don’t have any of those tapes anymore. I wish I did. They either broke or were thrown out.

Every week AT 40 counted down the top 40 songs from the Billboard Chart. I still remember screaming at the radio when Maggie May by Rod Stewart became no. 1. I hated that song (I love it now). I used to change the words when I sang it along with the radio. I did that with all of the songs I hated. The lyrics usually involved making fun of people that I didn’t like. There was a song by Cher called Half Breed. Here is how I would sing it.

Fuck You, you’re such a stupid nerd
Fuck You, why don’t you eat a turd
Fuck You, you’re no good they warned
Why don’t you take your clothes off, and go do some pornnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn…

Anyway, I stared thinking about what songs would be in my top 40, if my entire life of listening to music was condensed into one week. In other words, what 40 songs have I listened to more than any others during my lifetime. Of course, the research for it isn’t scientific. It’s just memory. But, they are vivid memories. I pretty much know what songs that I have listened to the most. Especially since I get on these bizarre song kicks and play the same one over and over. Sometimes for days. Sometimes for weeks. And in a few cases, months.

Keep in mind that some of these songs are from when I was a kid. My taste level has changed, so I don’t really listen to them anymore.

It’s the Same Song – variations on a pop theme

When I first heard the Asher Monroe song, I was like, “Why does that sound so familiar”? Then, I heard Glad You Came by The Wanted. Somehow it ended up on one of my itunes playlists. Some internet hacker must have put it there.

Anyway, it’s pretty much the same frickin’ song. Even the titles are similar. 3 words. Each word one syllable. 2 of the words have 4 letters and one of the words has 3 letters. How much closer can you get?
